Turbocharging data for Pink Ribbon Girls' cancer support

Like many non-profits, Pink Ribbon Girls (PRG) faced significant challenges in managing data for program operations, grant requests, annual reports, and more.

Their existing resource-planning app was riddled with bugs, leading to more issues than productivity. Client data, which could change daily due to the availability of four different services and multiple variables, further complicated the situation. The custom reporting features of the app failed to meet PRG's business intelligence needs, leaving many analysis tasks manual and time-consuming.

The problem went beyond just data management. On any given day, nearly 1,000 clients actively receive services from PRG.

They needed help to address both immediate and long-term challenges to ensure PRG could best serve their clients and effectively report the impact of their services.

The Fix

Test Double consultants tackled both immediate problems and long-term improvements to help PRG better serve clients and report on the impact of their services.

By attentively listening to PRG's needs, closely examining their systems, and addressing underlying issues, Test Double aimed to achieve both short-term and long-term goals.

The initial step in this business intelligence transformation was stabilizing the foundation and moving infrastructure systems under PRG’s control. This clean slate enabled the creation of a more effective way to analyze client data and derive insights through an easy-to-use interface.

After evaluating various business intelligence solutions, Metabase was chosen to provide more manageable and accessible insights. This open-source data platform offered reliable, immediate access to client data. Test Double further customized Metabase to meet PRG's specific needs. For example, a GitHub repository with custom region maps connected to each of the three state's service areas allowed for dashboard views of active client counts by region.‍‍‍

This capability allows PRG to easily access dashboard snapshots of data and filter to reduce the workload required to analyze and identify trends for financial, fundraising, and operational decisions.
