Building great software and great teams
It’s like a stunt double for software testing automation (and an approach championed by Gerard Meszaros). Test doubles stand in for dependencies in order to isolate behavior being tested. While we’re big fans of automated testing to safely refactor legacy codebases, Test Double is also a good metaphor for who we are and what we do.
We’re a software consulting agency, and our consultants are double agents (the good kind!). Our developers and product managers embed as remote additions to your team and solve hard problems. You could say our double agents pressure test systems as they apply years of experience to identify areas for improvement. We drive outcomes that matter so your team can do their best work.
OUR Approach
Holistic software problem solvers
We’re not order-taking code-slingers or spaghetti-throwing SCRUM lords. And we’re definitely not butts in seats. We have a very particular set of skills, but we’re not jerks about it.
Instead we meet your team where they are and leave them better than we found them.
OUR Culture
Making software better, one client at a time
Because we’ve been a distributed company from day one, every double agent is located wherever they do their best work, across the United States and Canada. The key to our success is effectively collaborating remotely with intentional communication. Many clients rely on us to share what we’ve learned about building high-performing remote teams.
100% Employee-Owned and Purpose-Driven
What’s an ESOP? One of our values is that we’re owners. We empower software engineers and product managers to identify problems, build consensus, and develop solutions. (By the way, that’s what makes for good consulting.) Ownership at Test Double is also about being 100% employee-owned through an Employee Stock Ownership Plan. Think of this as a long-term retirement plan offering equitable equity with tangible value and smart reinvestment of profits. Want to learn more? Co-founder and CEO Todd Kaufman explains why we opted for the ESOP structure.
What’s Certified Evergreen?
Test Double co-founders Todd Kaufman and Justin Searls started our software consultancy in 2011 following nationwide economic upheaval. So intentional, sustainable growth became a top priority for business decisions alongside a focus on our people. Along the way Todd discovered we weren’t so alone in being certifiably different. We learned the seven Tugboat Institute's 7 evergreen principles echoed our own values.
